Scholarships Awarded

Part of the proceeds from the Germanfest Picnic goes to underwrite scholarships for deserving students who promote the German heritage and culture. Including this year’s awards, the Germanfest Picnic scholarship awards have totaled more than $65,000 since the program’s inception.

2025 DLT Academic Scholarship

The Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Academic Scholarship program was initiated in 2001 as a means of promoting a greater awareness of the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Society, its activities, and German heritage and culture. Scholarships are funded by Germanfest.

Purpose
This scholarship is intended to aid students entering a two- or four-year undergraduate degree or certification program at an accredited college, university, technical school, or institution. The scholarship program is limited to graduating high school seniors.

Criteria

  • Applicant must be accepted in a two- or four-year undergraduate degree or certification program at an accredited college, university, technical school, or institution.
  • Selection will be based on:
    • Participation in Dayton Liederkranz-Turner activities.
    • Promotion of German heritage and culture.
    • Academic performance.
    • Standardized test scores.
    • Involvement in extracurricular, civic, or related activities.
    • Letters of reference and recommendations.
    • Educational/Vocational goal.

Funds Management

    • Budge for the scholarship program will be determined annually by the Executive Board.
    • Maximum award will be $2000.00. Multiple lesser awards also may be made.

2025 DLT Education Grant

History

The Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Education Grant program was initiated in 2001 as a means of promoting a greater awareness of the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Society, its activities, and German heritage and culture. Grants are funded by Germanfest

Purpose

This grant is intended to aid recipients seeking additional or advanced training or education.

Criteria

  • Applicant must be seeking enrollment or be already enrolled in a post-secondary course or program, which is intended to meet the applicant’s new educational or vocational goal.
  • Selection will be based on:
    • Participation in Dayton Liederkranz-Turner activities.
    • Promotion of German heritage and culture.
    • Personal, professional, or educational accomplishments.
    • Civic, educational or professional involvement.
    • Educational/Vocational goal.

Funds Management

  • Budget for the grant program, number of grants, and amount of each grant to be awarded will be determined annually by the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Executive Board.
  • Maximum grant is $500.00 per award winner.
  • Grant funds may be used for tuition, fees, or books. Award winner will receive a check made to the selected technical, educational or vocational institution in the amount of the award.
